Re: On Evaluating of Units' Relative Mobility
One thing to keep in mind is location of the tiles. The center will naturally be the most important and most contested part of any map, while the edges (especially border tiles) are less important because your movement is already restricted by the boundary. Many maps are bordered by water tiles, for...

Re: Hi one, Favourite and Least Favourite Unit?
I haven't played in a long while but I'll join in: Footpad has always been my favorite, though more so before the nerf. It's one of the most versatile units in the game, not just Knalgan's, with its dual-range attack, great mobility, and low cost. Damage-wise and mobility-wise it straddles the line ...

Re: [POLL] Removing planning mode
You'd have to make sure that you don't deshroud anything while moving out of the way. So I would have to delay shroud updates in general in order to be save from this mistake, but I like instant shroud updates. Also, checking the new ZOCs and areas enemy units can move to after 3 or 4 planned movem...

Re: What are the worst units in the game
I mean, the 2 Cave movement is okay on some maps and the 1 Hills is actually useful, but I'm taking Drake Glider all day over Wolf Rider: -1g cost, even better terrain costs (WR still wins Cave but hey, Saurians are more mobile there than either!), dual range including Marksman on the ranged attack ...

Re: What are the worst units in the game
It's dual-ranged in the sense that enemies can't pluck at you for literally free damage. That's all that really matters. It's not like the Bowman's melee is super-strong itself, more so than Spearman's range but the latter more than makes up for it with stronger primary-weapon damage. It helps hold ...

Re: What are the worst units in the game
There's nothing wrong with the Bowman per se, but what do they do? Spearmen are dual-range, so Loyalists don't absolutely need Bowmen to avoid being abused and freely chipped down by Elves (as Knalgan need Thunderers and Northerners need Orcish Archers). Blade melee, sure, but you're not going toe-t...

Re: What are the worst units in the game
If Dwarvish Scout was in Default Era, I think it would all but replace Poacher and even largely be a better Thunderer. 5 MP is huge with Dwarven terrain costs (damn near Flying) and the only mainline unit with more competent damage at both ranges is the Drake Burner. Sadly, it is not available in st...

Re: What are the worst units in the game
I'm on your side man, I love Horsemen. Wesnoth is mostly very carefully balanced around damage-per-hex, zone of control, etc. to make it rather difficult to break a strong defensive formation in a single turn. The Horseman is the only default unit that simply says "screw you" to the rules....

Re: Tips and Strategies about playing defensive
Neutral factions are better at defense, because they don't receive time-of-day bonus (positive as well as negative). Knalga have high terrain defense and resistances. Knocking them out of hills is usually impossible without usage of magical attack. Rebels with slowing and healing shamans and high d...

Re: [POLL] Removing planning mode
As Velensk, I never use it because I don't know how to use it. It didn't exist when I first started playing and I'm too stubborn and lazy to figure out how to use this new-fangled technology. I've no opinion of the feature. I do like Delay Shroud, I use it to help plan out unit movements and final p...

Re: SXRPG Version 5.2.1 - now on 1.12 Server
I like a challenge but I'm not sadistic. I think Expert is plenty difficult enough myself, having to keep up with damage and mobility and kite for mana or HP regen. It seems restarting a few times is a pre-requisite to not getting the D from RNG as it is, if you wanna go for a low-% weapon roll too ...

Re: Updating Wesnoth
Keep in mind that if you're just planning to kill time with some single-player campaigns, there's nothing stopping you from just continuing to play on 1.11 although if you're not in the middle of playing through a campaign you may as well update. Also, if your saves/preferences are in Documents/My G...

Re: How to save Wesnoth
As a old user who occasionally pops in, I have to echo the general thought that Wesnoth, for the most part, is in a sense basically "complete." I'm not sure you can really ever bring it back to its glory days, so to speak. It's the eventual fate of all single-player games, and even multipl...

Re: SXRPG Version 5.2.1 - now on 1.12 Server
well, yeah, there are quite some texts that need a little bit of an overhaul, also like the "basic-how-to-play" section at start. in any case by the time it was wtritten it was considered as impossible to win ToB with one unit :) in any case, im working on a new map, and also some Boss-ba...

Re: SXRPG Version 5.2.1 - now on 1.12 Server
Definitely not a lot of time spent here that could've been spent actually playing the game... SURVIVAL XTREEEEEEEM ROLE-PLAYING GAME kinda-sorta-maybe Unit Rankings (as of SXRPG version 5.2.1, for Wesnoth 1.12) Purpose: Determine the units most likely to successfully complete an SXRPG play...
