I make no judgement as to the quality of the music as music, but I can't stand either of these pieces as background music for a turn-based strategy game.

Neither of them has a strong rhythm, which is IMO very important in background music, and gameplay03.ogg goes from sound to silence frequently,...

I have noticed that for mp games, the same music plays for every race. I am an avid musician, but not much on the whole recording industry. Nevertheless, it would be great to have a couple of different songs for each race that would cycle instead of the same thing every turn...

I recently discovered this game and I do like the music. As a composer, I have some ideas about contributing to the project. There is one piece in particular that came with version I downloaded this week (wesnoth-2.ogg) I find particularly noteworthy, one of the best bits of computer gaming music...

When a unit stands in the water ,attack with the Bow and miss the enemy then you hear a click; why not a splash?
Could somebody make a splash sound?
I think battles would sound more realistc, if there were include a splash sound. :)

Yes, that's right. I'm serious. No offence to the music developers though. It's just like this.

You play the game for the first hour, start up a campaign, and ahh.... cool music. Very cool music. But later after playing it for 2-3 hours for weeks, it later becomes very dull and repetitive. No...

I also found a decent XM tracker for Linux so I could theoretically write something, but I'm no virtuoso. :)

I found this link from Hero of Allacrost (thanks Roots!) the other day:

Over 10,000 sound files licenesed under the Creative Commons license, ripe for the picking. I think we could find a lot of sounds we could use for Wesnoth from this site.

Wow I have actually attempted to make a contribution, this is a death sound, fitting for possible WCs, Orcs, anything like that, hope you enjoy(this is very rough, understand, did it in a few minutes)

I did just wire in the new music system for MP. From now on there is no more faction specific music. Instead there are now playlists for every scenario in MP. ATM the default playlist for the maps/scenarios in mainline looks like this in WML:

I always thought it was hilarious for a little bat to groan like a man, so I edited a sound file and came up with this.
I think it's of decent quality, I tried to make it short like the other sound files in the game but perhaps it's a little too short.

I'd just like to say that whatever you did to the version of the main theme in 1.1.1, it's really really great. The old version really bothered my ears, sounding too aggressive and harsh. The new version sounds a lot more lush and less in-your-face. Maybe you added reverb? Whatever you did, it...

Good news for the musicians, there has now been a change to the music system. It is possible to specify more than one pice of music per scenario including some ms of silence before and after the song. It was just commited to svn and is not complete yet. But it should work for campaigns...

I have deleted some old posts from either subjects that where too old or from people that joined the music team for less than a couple of days or posting music that had nothing to do with the game (for example techno).

This was made to gain space and get things a bit more organized.
