Wesnoth Organizational Updates Permanent archive for updates on decisions or reports made by the Battle for Wesnoth Project Council and the Wesnoth, Inc. Board of Directors. Moderator:Forum Moderators
Several of our mainline campaigns are in the works for upgrades at the moment, which includes adding characters and enhancing existing scenarios. We are looking for more artwork to supplement these upgrades, including the following:
We are happy to announce that Wesnoth is now able to accept donations on Liberapay . While Wesnoth does rely on the work of dedicated volunteers, no project can function completely cost-free. Revenue from the Apple App Store and from donations goes towards maintaining our servers,...
There have been numerous important forum posts and wiki articles written by users and developers. We reference these pages a lot, and decided to put them together in a convenient list.
Write clearly, be nice to others, and be very careful when posting anything related to politics or religion. When asking for help, remember that everyone here is a volunteer. Prefer editing your previous post over double posting. No animated avatars or graphical signatures. Don’t plagiarize other’s...
After pondering for a while the consequences of the extended 1.9.x development cycle for UMC developers like me, I decided to give the implementation of some basic preprocessor-level version checking a shot. It turned out to be significantly easier to implement than I originally...
Hello. I want work in GSoC 2011 program. I have an idea:I want try to create system for automatically load statistic on ladder directly from game, replay file for example. In future I plan create an automatic system, for choosing rival with same rank. Can i work with it? Are there people who are...
I noticed the Wesnoth install has gotten huge and I also noticed that there seem two be two versions of all the artwork - one with a black background and one with a transparent background.
Is it possible to generate the black-background versions dynamically on install instead? It seems like it'd...
Well, i recently got the urge to play Wesnoth again. I'm impressed with some of the changes over the last couple years, and somewhat surprised at some of the things that haven't changed. Lots of new animations, new music, a few new really nice terrains... It certainly loads much faster than i...
I've been building a new terrain type for some time using the graphics of the old canyon (which is now obsolete). The idea is to make a terrain that works just like canyon (non-walkable, but not impassable) that can be used to give height to maps. Currently, maps always look pretty flat. I'm not a...
I'm interested in working on sprite sheets for the summer of code, and other GSoC students are too. This is a thread to discuss various proposals, and to allow some input from artists since they frequent the forums more than irc or the mailing list.
In singleplayer campaigns, most of the time the player can easily distinguish between own units and enemy ones, because they are from different factions.
It's harder to tell what units are loyal or are of some other importance.
This problem could be solved by introducing more overlay images that...
Here's a possible idea for more in-game Statistics. The original idea came from eddieballgame in this thread (although I dislike his Performance Rating idea).
The equation would look something like:
Essentially, it would be the computer's idea of Who's winning?
All of this said, I wouldn't have anything against dual-licensing our music under something like CC:Attribution in addition to the GPL.
I know that I tend to write too long messages, but I think this needs clearing up: GPL on music and graphics is either not applicable, or not enforcable in...
I decided to post this on the forums and get input from everyone.
I will be applying for GSoC under Wesnoth this year and would like to flesh out my ideas before submitting my proposal. :)
There are two issues I wish to discuss:
1) WML Memory Optimisation
After reading Dave's post...
I have recently come across some photos that I think would be great to include in campaigns. These have been taken by people in the open source community and they seem willing to allow them in wesnoth(one has confirmed that, the other not yet). The question is this: Is an email confirmation ok? Is...
Since I am not able to post to the #wesnoth-dev mailing list , and GNA refuses to do anything about it , I am responding to Yogi's email on this forum instead.
Browsing the revision, I see a number of other maps where the original designer is not credited.
I very much appreciate that you've gone on the attack here without first doing any research on the subject or talking to me about the motivations/process behind it.
Is there any specific reason why the ID of the Halberdier is spelt 'Halb a rdier' while the name is Halb e rdier ? If not, then is there any objection to me setting it strait?
Well testing Alink's patch I noticed a bug and it caused me to think a little about the whole striped background interface. First, the bug: If I have a unit >1 hex away from an enemy unit and I select my unit than the enemy unit's hex is displayed with the darken image over it. If my unit is...
On the svn trunk, I added the possibility to choose the attack direction even when you are near the enemy. Previously, a separate move was needed (note that there is also an automatic re-selection of the unit who enter in ZoC, which spare the re-select click).
I noticed that ESR recently changed how the end-of-scenario dialogues work. Now there's only one, which just acknowledges that you won the game, and the decisions to save or not save replays, and to delete or not delete autosaves, are made in the preferences menu.
I preface this by noting that I am NOT suggesting any changes in what we use, I'm just curious to see how this behaves for other people.
During my tenure at wesnoth, and during the time we've used Gna's hosting for our svn repo, I've accessed their websvn site from several different places, on...
This is a continuation from this bug report . Please read the discussion therein at least somewhat before giving loud opinions, as there are a few quite good and non-obvious points made by Darth Fool there. Basically, Darth Fool wants to have a unique identifier given to recruited and...
I received the following request for information. Besides the links at under world of wesnoth and the unit tree, are there any other wiki links or forum topics that he should be pointed at? Have we named an official historian of Wesnoth (Turin?) that would serve as a better contact.
I think it would be good if as much as possible (wherever it can be done sensibly and naturally and not seem a stretch) we did not repeat the names of units.
It is obvious people were already trying to do this to some extent, but it can be taken further. It would also just facilitate commincation...
This thread is meant to discuss the Policy for adding campaigns to mainline and to nominate campaigns that should be considerd for addition to mainline.
We have now the possibility to use custom flag icon in the statusbar (by using the key flag_icon in ). Since this icon can be changed, it's probably a good idea to define some sort of standard size, so it will works fine on different theme and give directions to umc.
I was asked to post some of my ideas about how the add-on server and the add-on browser could be improved to provide more useful information about the add-ons, so here goes:
1. We should add a mandatory contact field to .pbl files that would be stored on the server as a hidden record of some kind,...
The proposal : When the player has selected one of their own units, all visible enemy units that could attack the selected unit on the next turn would be highlighted (perhaps by a red glow or outline). As the player moves the mouse to select a path, the threat highlights would update along with the...
