Installing development and stable in *nix

Post by beetlenaut »

Can I install 1.5.x in *nix without losing 1.4.x? If I run a make-install, will the stable version get overwritten? What about the userdata folder?

(I can't download it and check because I have severe bandwidth restrictions. I'm not going to download it unless I already know it works.)

You can ./configure with a different install dir so they don't conflict. You can also just not install it and run it out of the source dir.

I probably should have thought of that, but then I've never had a reason to do it before. There isn't a way to specify a different userdata directory, is there?
