[AI] Computer in MP - use of Ghosts

I just played a MP game with 4 random comp opponants and I was Undead, Forest of Fear I think. A computer player and I met in the middle with 2 ghosts. This will be a long battle at best, Drain vs. Drain or Cold vs. Cold. After 2 rounds of combat with minimal damage the computer sends his Ghost to attack a Skeleton Warrior who was just summoned. There is also a recently summoned Skeleton Archer (and my leader) nearby. He does some cold damage to the SW but will not finish him for many turns.

On my turn I surround the Ghost and hit him hard. He dies the turn after. Why send a expensive unit in on a useless mission to get a few easy hits? I believe this was done because there is no other ‘safe target’ that is not on a village. Can this be adjusted that AI units won’t attack like this where they clearly can’t be supported?
The shovel saves more lives than the sword.
