Truth.
abr2gbr is a tool for converting Adobe PhotoShop ABR and Corel Paint Shop Pro
JBR brush files to the GIMP GBR format.
It's spelled "definitely", not "definately". "Defiantly" is a different word entirely.

Some REALLY informative and useful anatomy sketches that I thought just had to be shared here.

Found a handy article about animating walk cycles, might be helpful for the peeps who are currently working on that.

An interesting tutorial on creating walking animations: http://www.angryanimator.com/word/2010/ ... alk-cycle/
Although not dealing directly with pixel art animation, it does cover a number of key walking animation concepts that can be applied to animating Wesnoth sprites.

1. Combat animations.
Whenever I see this guy (John Clements), I think of the video as very much trustworthy.
A real fan of exploring and mastering European medieval fighting, and he has been around for a long time.

(otherwise I wish people would pay more attention to fencing stance, ergonomic rotation around center of mass, leverage, and unbalancing for movement, otherwise no matter how big the windup, the animation will look bland)
2. Some nice ships.
There is such game like FreeCol which is GPL, and while Battle for Wesnoth is using same ships as main FreeCol, there are some (6) awesome looking images of ships of various types in one of the mods.
The ships are in folder freecol\data\mods\hutzli\resources\images\units\default.

I've added some of these links to the "External Tutorials" section of the wiki as part of my ongoing efforts to update and clean up the art-related sections of the wiki.
A precise list of my additions (links lead to the post in this thread where the tutorial links were originally posted):
1. Walking animation tutorial found by Atz: http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php ... 62#p479662

I'm no artist, but those who are are always going on about lighting and not pillow-shading and stuff. I think this YouTube video I've just stumbled across would clarify elementary principles of lighting for a lot of our budding artists.

Re: Other artists inspirations and References
Krita is amazing, I love Krita, but until it has animation tools I think Gimp is the better choice. But, one cool thing Krita can do that is not in the videos is that one can open up a reference image in the side panel which you can color pick from if you want to stick with a particular color pallette that an established unit already has. Settings>dockers>reference image
Gimp has some nice spriting functionality:
Using view>new you can have a small window showing the sprite at 100% size while working on a zoomed in version (in the small view also turn off view> show layer boundary)
A cool thing in Gimp's animation playback mode is that if you use layer groups it's smart enough to only show the composited version of each layer group, and will even update changes in real time- so if you paint while it is playing it will show the changes. This makes the layer-based animation of Gimp pretty awesome. And you can adjust the timing of each frame (layer or layer group) as well.
For portrait art definitely Krita is a great choice. I don't think the author of the videos has done enough with Gimp to properly review it, so I'd take what he says in the first video with a grain of salt. Both great free tools to have at one's disposal!
