New terrain: cultivated fields

Post by cedric »

request for a new terrain

I designed yet another unit, a non-military one: the peasant. Being the one who provides food to the people of Wesnoth, the peasant is a very appreciated fellow. But there's a problem: he has a hard time farming the land, since there is no cultivated fields in Wesnoth. This is an awful situation for our friendly peasant.

I know there are talented terrain artists on this forum, this is why I'm asking. If someone wanted to provide a cultivated field (wheatfields for instance), it would be very much appreciated. :)

I'm not a really qualified terrain artist (I'm less bad at that than for unit) and I had proposed before having some fields but there was no interest in it. If nobody else volunteer I might do a try. I was tthinking about 4 versions: barren plowed dirt for winter, low green field for spring, higher green-yellow for summer and yellow for autumn.
Do you have a cow/bull unit in your plan? they could use some pasture with a few apple trees :).
Pichfork were not such a bad weapons...and scythe were even better, specially when the blade was turned 90 degres (so aligned with the shaft). Quite a few landlord lost pieces of their bodies when irrate peasants came in force to complain. The peasant could be a lvl0 for the pikeman.

I like it. Much like the banditry recently included, it may have some significant use.

I would second the addition of cultivated fields as a terrain tile.

Cultivated fields would be nice.. I'll try to do one or two based in grassland
(to be used as grassland "alias" terrain)
The Elesenfar city would look nicer with some fields near.

Maybe it would be better to blend the cropfileds with the current grassland tiles as they will be at the same height... (so they could share same border images too)
Otherwise good work :-)

Wow, when you're working on transitions, you don't do it by halves! Thanks for these tiles, Gafgarion. :)

You're welcomed to modify them if you wish, I'm exhausted. ;)

No problem at all. I may need to do a little modification of a few of tiles, though.
1 of my computers displays them perfectly in-game, the other has graphic artifacts with one of the transitions and has a 1 pixel border in between crops tiles. It would be wise to test these thoroughly.

A bull would have the 'charge' ability, but only towards units clad in red. ;)

You've guessed right, I designed peasants with a revolt scenario in mind...

In fact, beneath my mask I am truely evil. But beware, don't repeat that to anybody, or I may send Khreonas to kill you. ;)

I'll try that in-game as soon as possible.

Report if you have any problems and I'll gladly fix them ASAP... This is my first try at a Wesnoth terrain, so I very well have made an error along the way.
