Jetryl's 1.2 Graphics List

This is a list, to clue in the other developers of what I consider desirable to be finished for a 1.2 release. This is to inform your choice of when 1.2 gets released - I would suggest waiting till after these are done, as I feel the lack of them would mar the release.

New, TC versions of:
• Woses
• Trolls
• Orcish Assassin/Slayer
• Young Ogre (in progress, assigned to Eternal)
• Gryphon/Rider (in progress, assigned to me)
• Hinfantry/ShTrooper
• Thug, Bandit
• Trapper, Poacher
• Thief Line

Some animation flesh-out/loose ends cleaned up on:
• Elven archer line death animations (In progress)
• Saurian Augur (In progress, assigned to me)
• Elven healing animations for druid/shyde (obviously assigned to me)
• Animations for Dragonguard (nearly done)
• Animate the pillager's fire
• New fireball (single-image) projectile

New/Edited attack icons for:
• Ballista
• Wose Slam
• Wooden Sword
• Troll Hammer


ETA is IIWIIR. :roll: I'll do what I can to hurry it along, though.

I would also like to see these finished before 1.2 gets released.

When it comes to terrain I think it's in a decent shape atm. My main concerns was the dwarven castle and tropical forest, both which have been replaced recently. I have a lot of half-finished terrain (snow mountains, new "barren terrains", etc), but will not have time to do any substantial work on them before 1.2.

What I will focus on with my limited available time is assisting pekka and mog with their water transition work.

I sugest stickying and locking this thread and moving it to the public art forum...

Code wise we are not very far from 1.2...

do you have a rough idea of when this would be ready ?

They can't help with most of this stuff - that which I need their help with, I ask them for (c.f. assassin/slayer thread).

This thread is not for artists, this is for you. Besides, they can read this here, and this isn't really up for debate from them, just for reading. If someone has something that isn't listed here and desperately needs to tell me, that's why we have PMs.

Not any more than you - it depends on my RL work schedule. I could make a shotgun guess of a week or two, but I just don't know. Relatively soon, I think.

However, I will green things off as they get done, so you'll be able to watch the progress. The answer to your question lies there.

I'd say we should give Jetryl the time he needs to create this remaining stuff. When 1.2 was first supposed to be near there was no chance to get TC, attack icons etc. completed but now we're close enough that it would be a shame to leave those unfinished. The artists made a huge effort over the last weeks and should be credited with the time to reach a polished state for 1.2 IMHO.

It seems ambitious, but given the recent flurry of artistic work (much by Jetryl), it just might happen! And that would be most cool. 8)

Given this - I would ask for a reconsideration on adding the female dark sorceror and necromancer. This was blocked because it adds one string, but that one string is the name! One word. It doesn't break any existing strings.

1.2 is building up to a big release, and because of that, it seems stupid to ship it with something so obviously broken as a male-only advancement to a male/female line. :?


I mean - we may as well do this now.

I talked to Ivanovic on IRC about it and he'd prefer to see the female dark adept taken out of 1.2 and a full female line entering as soon as that is out to appear in 1.2.1. This solution has the advantage of not setting a precedent case of weakening the string freeze which over time could render it meaningless. It's hard enough to keep it already and I think translators deserve the chance to have a fully completed 1.2 as well as artists a polished release...

:? That really, really seems like a backwards way to do things, since it gives the translators less time to do their job (only the small window between 1.2 and 1.2.1 versus the much larger window between now and 1.2/1.2.1).

Still, I'll defer to Ivanovic's judgment on this. What I will do, is I will commit the full line to trunk. It can be ported from there to 1.2.1.
