Kalifa unit art

Post by Eleazar »

I didn't see a thread for these guys.

Currently Kalifa graphics have no animations, and most need to be TColored and Biggerized to fit with the rest of the default era.
Err, but naturally that should happen in this order: Biggerized, TColored, then animated.

To start out, i have a biggerized & TColored immortal.

Cool. I could help with some animations in a few days.

Great, i'd usually rather not do that myself.

Archer L1:
Here he is scaled to mainline size. This one i'm not as happy with, but i'll put it out here for now. You may notice he looks scrawny next to a loyalist bowman. Well he's more of a bow specialist that the loy's unit. His melee HP, and resistances all are lower.

I'm trying to maintain as much of the original appearance, but it's difficult when both the size and color need significant changes.

Don't. Just go ahead and fix anything that's broken.

Neo does not tread very lightly when redoing someone else's units, and that's a secret to why he always does such an amazing job.

You have a point, but part of my caution is based on the fact that i'm not very familiar with the semi-historical trappings of this faction.

It may, if the art/sound requirements are met, and the balance is judged sufficient. The Kalifa are the faction most likely to be next added to mainline. But beyond this simple info, this forum topic is only for discussing things relevant to the Kalifa's appearance.

Notes on Size

Post by Yogin »

The Amir and Ghulam are armored, so should look very slightly bigger due to their armor. Especially the Lvl 2 Arif and Lvl 3 Immortal. The Ghaznid and Life Guard are more heavily armored than the Ghulam, and the Ghulam Al Rami is less armored than the Ghulam (horse loses its armor).

They were based on the Ottoman Empire, right? If so, then these websites should give you an idea of what they should look like:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_o ... man_Empire

http://www.theottomans.org/english/camp ... /index.asp

This one is from the wrong time period, but probably still helpful:

So, who are these Kalifas then? I can't find any info about them in the wiki or forum. :?
Everything above this line is true. Everything below this line is false.

They are on the add-on server, listed as something like "Kalifa+Default".
