About copyright

Post by Monkey »

I'm making a campaign and I need to know about copyright? It's an terror campaign, about dracula and other nocturnal creatures. I'm thinking about using some Castlevania midi music. Is that legal or I'm gonna get my ass sued in some time now?

Its not legal.
Castelvania music, i think, is Nintendo's copyright. You don't want to mess with them... or anybody! Make your own music, or find some already made under GPL licence so you can freely use it.

Konami's copyright, actually... and yeah, it's as legal as using a Metallica MP3 for music.

Are you sure? If I'm not mistaken, if I do something with no money profit, and give them the proper credits it's ok.
At least this is what I do with books.

100% sure. I'm a musician and my music is copyrighted. Nobody can use my music without my permission if its played over 30 sec. Then you have other alternatives but forget it for your campaign.
Especially games and movies music. You usually pay BIG bucks to get to use them. So if this music is owned by Konami you can forget it...

I guess I'll just make something similar myself then.
