Grand Knight/Heavy Knight proposal

Post by cobretti »

As suggested by Dave in the User's forum, here it is a new possible upgrade from the Knight unit: A heavier version, possibly slower than the Paladin, without holy attack.

I've tried it inside the game, and doesn't look bad, but comments are welcome (and desirable).

How about a banner or standard in the other hand? The horse looks really good, but the rider looks too similar to the normal knight.

i LOVE the horse, it's fantastic. As for the knight, I think his armor should be a bit more... well... grand.

Perhaps a little bit beefier armor and a darken the color tone a bit?

the legs on the horse look strange.
the whole horse does not look armored, it looks like it has a lot of fur. I am not sure how you can fix it, but this is how it looks right now.

Well, the rider is the normal knight. :D I did it as a proof of concept, to quickly show how can it look. It requires further development, and possibly a more impressive armor (yes, Gafgarion, it will look more 'Grand'). But this is a start.

The legs are partly covered by the armor. This is why they look strange.
Fur? I don't think so, but maybe it will be clearer if I change the body color of the horse (currently pale/gray)

As a tip, what I tried to do is like what you can see here

While you're touching up the image, remember to de-elf him ;)

I am aware of what it is supposed to look like, but the current color of the armor, not the hair on the horse, is making it look strange. why don't you make the color of the armor more metallic?

Fur? Nahh. Looks more like a carpet or quilt, really.
Touch up the color of that draping, and adjust the legs... they seem to be sticks holding up a guy on a carpet with a horse head.

Oh, and how about giving him a raised sword instead of a lance, just for variety? Then Paladins can keep the theme of "charge-boldly-into-battle" and this unit will be nicely different.

Why not give him a mace or a hammer (like in warcraft 2) and make it a heavy infantry on horse (with good resistance too) ? He would still be good against undead, but the downside is that none of the knight upgrade would have a blade attack, who could be seen as a downgrade by some.

IMHO it should use warhammer and lance. a +10% resistance bonus over normal knights and a bit stronger and healthier than paladin.
I did a graphic.

great. however- why yellow?

I don't really like yellow. i think red or blue might look good.

Yellow because no other mounted unit uses it :-)
I'll desaturate it a bit and change the hue to et a more ochre colour ...

i'm looking at it's helmet and doe sit have horns, or are they pointy bronze ears? I like the bronze/yellow armor, but perhaps it's cape should be a different color. Technically the cape wouldn't be armored and I think a different color might make it look even cooler.

The horse is only wearing cloth barding so a cape with the same colour is fit.
I tried to make a helmet like this

EDIT: added a x3 version to show my image.
