Of course there is more to the map. That is just a small screencap. You should download the file to your Wesnoth\userdata\editor\maps directory, then you can open it with editor.exe or a Multiplayer campaign.

And what's wrong about removing 1 attack to 0 attacks? It seems more logical to me, and that was the functionality I expected when I first started playing. False alarm. My coordinate-resets were nested in my object tag (strangely). Thus, the move-to filter continued to fire even after the item was picked up.

I believe there may be a flaw in the Droppable Item macro which sometimes causes a unit without the item to drop an identical copy.
