The problem is the interface is trying to protect players from themselves. Very annoying. If you want to inch forward because you don't know what's ahead you can do it with the mouse. If you want to rush ahead you SHOULD be able to do it with the mouse. No keys needed. Players learn through mistakes...

:) Shards Era provides more flexible unit advancement and there's even a mod that allows you to play things like campaigns, such as Legend of the Invincibles, with the sorts of changes being discussed here.

Version 0.2.8 with bug fixes, and which adds merfolk, is on the addons server. Legend of the Invincibles is really an incredible campaign; and even better with Shards Era, heh.

Version 0.2.7 with bug fixes is now on the addons server. You can now use the flexible advancements mod in single-player! I've been having loads of fun playing through Heir to the Throne with more advancement options. e.g.

Version 0.2.6 which includes bug fixes is now on the addons server. Does anyone have any requests for other races to add? Bats? Horses? Ogres? Mermen? ;p

I've been having a lot of fun with Shards Era! Works great with survivals or maps like coloseum, I find. I've also found some bugs, which I'll work on too.

I think this is a great idea. I would have the hexes invisible to a unit indicated as occluded versions of the hexes visible to that unit, just as hexes that cannot be moved to by a unit are occluded versions of hexes that can be moved to by a unit. Another possibility is applying the same principle...
