Re: People of the Green Isle
So, to sum up, what we have elaborated so far, the timeline would look like this (suggested changes in italics) Prehistory - Elves and Dwarves inhabit the Great Continent. - Humans inhabit the distant West and the South . - Haldric's people (need a name) discover the Green Isle when they follow the ...

Re: People of the Green Isle
Since the last few posts were only about details, it seems like the three of us had come to some sort of consensus. Zephyrans sounds a bit weird to me, more like a race on its own, not a human tribe, besides we have the Wes(t)folk already. As for the name of the Southern Continent, I would prefer no...

Re: People of the Green Isle
I'm not that familiar with the TRoW dialog, unfortunately. Anyway, I think, we can find a reasonable explanation for that. Maybe the Wesfolk moved to the coast later and thus developed ships later. I also agree with johndh, making the "inferiority" of the Pre-Islefolk not a technological o...

Re: People of the Green Isle
In my view, the problem with the Islefolk coming from the Old Continent is that it seems weird to think that such a primitive people would find the Green Isle, but the very advanced Wesfolk would not. This is explained easily by saying that the Wesfolk weren't fishermen. They lived far from the coa...

Re: My ally and his well located keep
If I understood him correctly, the allied leader will move away, as soon as you have moved your leader in a position that allows him to take over the keep in the next turn. But my commander has to get from his own keep to the ally´s keep in one single move ?

Re: People of the Green Isle
@johndh: I'm sorry, it might be because English isn't my native language I'm not sure, if I understand you totally. Please correct: - The ancestors of Haldric's people (=Vanyar) came from the Old Continent in the distant west. Following whales they found the Green Isle and started to colonize it. - ...

Re: People of the Green Isle
Actually, there isn't; all that the Timeline of Wesnoth says about it is that it was colonised by humans from a continent further to the west - still, afaik there's no mainline campaign stating that they came from the west... I can't think of any mainline lore about that either. However, doesn't De...

Re: People of the Green Isle
I introduced the issue with the iron wepaons because I thought a people that lives to the shore would unlikely have access to iron ore on their own. They would need to trade it, so metal artifacts would be rare and valuable but not totally unknown. The merfolk thing: When the Vanyar only used ships ...

Re: People of the Green Isle
I would prefer to avoid these because having the continent still inhabited leaves more possibilities open for the future, such as campaigns set on the southern continent or involving the relationship between the two (trade, diplomacy, war, etc.). I agree; this southern continent could expand our li...

Re: People of the Green Isle
There are various reasons:
1. The Islefolk were driven away buy monsters/dragons/evil necromancers etc.
2. Their former ome sunk into the sea (->Atlantis)
3. It has become a hostile place because of some natural disaster
4. They simply don't know the way back any more.

It only sais that no permanent exchange could take place. But it's still possible that arrivals from the motherland occurred unregularly.

Re: People of the Green Isle
I like the idea of making the Green Isle a melting pot. If the Islefolk were descendants of a southern black people and having them mixed with the light-skinned Wesfolk, this would be a simple and plausible explanation for a broad variety of skintones. Edit: I do hope, that we can set this up withou...
